Here are this week’s recommendations :
The Matador : (Movie, Amazon Prime, 96 minutes)
This movie about an unlikely friendship between an out of work salesman and an aging hitman is hilarious & quirky. Check out the trailer for this Pierce Brosnan starrer.
Goliath : (Series, Amazon Prime, 3 Seasons, 8 ep each, 55 mins)
How good is Billy Bob Thornton in this. This legal drama is compelling and gritty. The supporting cast is great. There are multiple twists and turns and enough character development. Each of the three seasons have different arcs and each one is enjoyable. Here is the trailer for Season 1.
Jojo Rabbit : (Movie, Disney+ Hotstar, 108 minutes)
Taika Wakiki is one of my favorite directors and this movie has his trademark wacky style. Supremely funny with pinches of sadness. The satire is effective in this brilliant film with super performances by the ensemble cast. My favorite character is Jojo’s friend played by Archie Yates. Here is the trailer.
Mirage : (Movie, Netflix, 129 minutes)
This spanish movie with an element of time travel is mysterious, thrilling and also emotional. Here is the trailer.
The Haunting of Bly Manor : (Mini Series, Netflix, 9 episodes, 55 mins)
This is a slow paced show and it involves you with itself. There is a mix of horror and love story and while it is not chilling as the predecessor anthology series The Haunting of the Hill House, it does have strengths of its own. Also, in case you haven’t watched Hill House, do watch Bly Manor first and you will enjoy both more. Here is the trailer.
BollyGeek : (Book, Amazon, 54 Trivia Lists)
Do you know in how many movies Amitabh Bachchan has played a Police officer? or Who voiced over Raavan in the song Pal Pal hai bhaari from Swades?
This and much more interesting trivia you will find in the recently released book by Diptakirti Chaudhuri. There are lists like Serial Killers of Hindi Cinema, 7 kinds of Facial Hair in Bollywood. Go read it and you will be highly entertained.
